Crab Apple #31

This tree is sponsored to celebrate our great-grandmother Jane Burgess, and everyone whose compassion and kindness give life-changing support to others.

When her father died Jane left school and went to work so that her little brother Whit could carry on with his schooling.

This shaped not only their future but the lives of many, as he did very well and echoed her service in his own work.

Whit became Lord Mayor of Bristol in 1939, and was thus directly responsible for overseeing and coordinating the city’s civilian defence at the outbreak of the Second World War.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?”  Martin Luther King Jr.
